NCPA hunt suspect over sexual abuse of a girl

• Public assistance sought to locate him

The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) for the first time in the history of NCPA appointed an “Authorised officer” over an incident in which a 13-year-old girl was abused sexually. 

NCPA Chairman Prof. Muditha Vidhanapathirana said the suspect, a resident of Matiyagane in Narammala had abducted the girl and then sexually abused her. 
“First, the child was abducted on December 14, 2020 and local police was informed. However, they complained to NCPA hotline 1929. The child was returned home on December 25. Subsequently she was taken to hospital and discharged on December 30 and police reported facts to courts,” he said. 

However, the child was abducted again on the same day by the same suspect, Prof Vidhanapathirana said. 

For the first time in the history of NCPA, I have appointed an “Authorised officer” and appeared in a Magistrates’ Court on January 6 and took over the case,” he said. 
“We have sent our police unit and the child was rescued on January 11 from the suspect’s house at Minikukula in Matiyagane, Narammala. She was then admitted to the hospital.
