President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today inaugurated the first phase of the Park & Ride bus service at the Makumbura Multimodal Transport Centre in Kottawa.

The aim of the project is to reduce the number of vehicles travelling to Colombo and suburbs by providing a comfortable, safe, public transport bus service for motorists and motorcyclists.

Only luxury buses are to be used to carry passengers according to the number of seats.
The fare is double the normal bus fare. The service includes a limited number of stops, short-haul destinations, polite, friendly and attractive transportation.

Passengers can park their vehicles in the multi-centre park free of charge. Parking space is expected to be expanded to take into account the progress of the programme.

Buses will run every 15 minutes from 06.00 am to 08.00 am and from 04.00 pm to 09.00 pm while buses will run every 25 minutes between 08.00 am and 04.00 pm. A total of 64 trips are scheduled to run daily.
