Heated arguments flared up in Parliament yesterday when SJB MP Harsha de Silva alleged that the government has decided to close down Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL).

Dr. de Silva who raised a point of order tabled a circular which has been issued to this effect.
“It was PUCSL which was responsible for decisions pertaining to power and water supply and fixing of tariffs. With this decision it is likely that  Ceylon Electricity Board will get the power to decide on electricity tariffs,” he said.
“This is nothing but economic dictatorship,” Dr. de Silva added.

However, Government MPs who responded said the document which was tabled by the MP was false.
