We Are Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka, a pearl in every possible sense - the wildlife, a proud and long history, amazing beaches and of course, us, the people. We are in our own way a nation of achievers, heroes, legends and the ever resilient. We have caused ripples around the world from ancient times and continue to do so, every day. From world renowned hospitality to record shattering sports feats, we have done it all with a deep sense of pride. A sense of pride that runs deep within our veins. It is what defines us. Not just the people that have achieved global glory, but each and every one of us. It is what makes us rise stronger each time we fall down. It is why we are stronger together, than we will ever be apart. We are the champions, we are the discoverers, we are the artists, we are the friends and together, we are glory.

What more could I say but that I have tears in my eyes? Each and every Police Officer who protected the Speaker and the Mace must receive the highest Public Honour from the hand of our Prime Minister in the presence of the Speaker.Whilst our blood was boiling on their behalf for the injustice being done to them ,the way they behaved and the patience, control and absolute resilience the brave officers displayed in the face of the cowardly, vicious and humiliating attack by those terrible people, were truly remarkable and will be etched in our collective memory for as long as we live. We must erect a Paque in parliament with the name and designation of each and every Police Woman and Man who stood shoulder to shoulder hand in hand to protect our rights on that memorable day. They truly are heroes. We are duty bound to honour them. It is the second time our country was saved after 2009. But as fate would decree the hero in the first became the villain in the latter, sadly.
