Two suspects who were arrested on charges of printing, circulating and keeping fake currency notes in their possession were ordered to be remanded till February 7 by the Moneragala District Court today.
The imprisoned were identified as Kongahage Felix Anthony Perera (64), a resident at No.14, Inginiyagala Church Road in Ampara and R.M. Hinnimahathmaya (65) from Dozer Road, Hindikivula in Moneragala.
The two suspects had served voluntarily in the UNP District Office at the house belonging to MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara, former Minister of Public Administration Management and Rural Economic Development.
Police arrested the first accused on January 29 while he was buying a development lottery ticket using a fake currency note bearing the face value of Rs. 500 in Moneragala. The ticket seller had provided the information to the Police.
During investigations, the police have recovered two fake 100 rupee notes and a fake twenty rupee note in his possession.
When the CID investigated further into this incident, they had found an Epson-type printer (XYDW) used for printing currency notes, one power cable, four bottles of various kinds of paints, one computer cable, one Dell-type toner, one VGA cable, one Dell-type supply unit including the appliances used for computers from the office of MP Madduma Bandara, at his house in Potuvil Road, Moneragala.

Are they members of the Dulanjali Premadasa s money printing team. May be printing currency notes for the election campaign?
