The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) today rejected reports of any tsunami threat or that it had organised a tsunami drill in Beruwala this morning.
DMC Spokesperson Pradeep Kodippili said someone had conveyed misinformation to the Divisional Secretariat, Beruwala saying that there would be a drill.
Accordingly, the Divisional Secretariat has announced in the area that a tsunami drill was being held and many people had left their homes in panic.
“We are investigating to find who gave wrong information to the Divisional Secretariat,” Mr Kodippili said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
