The government will appoint a committee to streamline the process of drafting a new set of laws to govern the affairs of the landmass reclaimed from the sea under the Colombo Port City project, Daily Mirror learns.

The project was launched in 2014. Under it, 269 hectares of land were added to the territory of Sri Lanka. The previous government carried out some work regarding the evolution of new laws to govern the financial and administrative activities of the new landmass. However, it could not complete the task.

The new government has decided to have a fresh look at the whole process and appoint a committee to work out a few pieces of legislation to be enacted by Parliament.

The landmass has already been added as part of the Colombo administrative district. Also, former President Maithripala Sirisena vested it with the Urban Development Authority (UDA).

A commemorative stamp and a first-day cover will be issued today to mark the addition of this landmass for Sri Lankan territory. (Kelum Bandara)

These drafted laws should be first presented to the masses to get opinion. This is exactly what Pohottuwa wanted from Yahapalana Govt.
