Despite painstaking efforts by the health and security sectors to control the spread of Covid-19 pandemic, the Health Ministry said there are people who still act in an irresponsible manner by holding public gatherings like weddings and functions, ignoring health guidelines.
While claiming that public cooperation in this regard was disappointing, Health Ministry spokesman Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara said such events are being held in a subtle manner, despite the authorities informing people to restrict or call off events that gather people into one place.
“The behaviour and attitudes of the people will have a significant impact when it comes to containing the virus,” Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara said.
He said the health and security officials alone cannot control the prevailing situation without the cooperation of the people who should adhere to basic health guidelines.
“If people continue to ignore basic health guidelines, the current situation would be worse and go out of control," he said adding that such attitudes should come from within the people.
"We cannot force them on the people," he said.
Therefore, he requested people to refrain from organising and attending public gatherings and cooperate with relevant officials. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

Dr. A government led by a so called action man is in place to ensure that the law is enforced. When things go bad you come in front of the media and blame the people when things are rosy your leaders wave the flag and claim credit .. grow up or quit

Dear Dr. These protocols can be properly controlled by adhering proper guidelines staring from state and private TV shows, especially talk-shows , but the mindset of the people runs them do have a ulterior motive, This is a time for Medical professionals to take over and let the Politicians take a back seat since they have no clue.
