The Swiss Embassy in Sri Lanka said the detaining of their local employee against her will on the street in Sri Lanka and threatening her at length by unidentified men had to be regarded as a very serious and an unacceptable act.

“We can confirm that a local employee of the embassy was detained against her will on the street and threatened at length by unidentified men in order to force her to disclose embassy-related information,” it said.

Switzerland promptly reported the incident to the Sri Lankan authorities and is demanding an immediate and complete investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

It also calls for the perpetrators to be brought to justice and for the guarantee of the security of the Swiss representation in Colombo and its employees to be fully restored.

This message was conveyed on November 27 by the Swiss ambassador to Sri Lanka to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena together with a diplomatic demarche.

Furthermore, the Sri Lankan ambassador to Switzerland has been summoned to the FDFA, Switzerland's foreign ministry. (Lahiru Pothmulla and Sheain Fernandopulle)

The victim has to cooperate and help the police. If the victim doesn’t do so there is no point threatening the government. Western countries like to make a lot of noise but have to follow it up with action.

In according to news the person concern itself is a mystery? Please let the authorities to get a statement from the person and get details first like where it happened? Date? time? what other person look like so on and so forth. And further questioning and establish basic idea of the person as we have more than 21 million population.

Understand the victim nor the Embassy has made any complaints to Police. Or she should be questioned in front of an official of the Embassy. This had not been allowed. SL Govt cannot leave this complaint lightly.

    Gayan Saturday, 30 November 2019 06:14 AM

Then kindly cooperate with the investigations. Why the said employee is not given access for a statement?

    Renato Saturday, 30 November 2019 06:48 AM

The Tiger will never change his spots although he changes the forest.

    Rosh Saturday, 30 November 2019 08:11 AM

Why won't the embassy make a complaint to the Police and cooperate with the investigation instead of releasing statements to the media?

    Raveendran Saturday, 30 November 2019 08:38 AM

I thought Rajapaksas would have learnt the lessons from their earlier practices and be responsible people the second time around, but there seems to be no change at all. If this is the style of the new government then I can guarantee that they are on a suicidal path.
