In response to concerns raised by India about a Chinese company involved in some power projects in the North, the Chinese embassy said today (15) it was purely a commercial activity undertaken through an open international bidding process.
Sri Lanka awarded the contract to a Chinese company to execute three renewable energy projects in the islands off Jaffna. There were media reports earlier that India raised concerns in this regard on the basis that it posed a security threat to India.
A spokesman for the embassy said yesterday the related Chinese company is a private one.
“It is in accordance with the international bidding procedures. As far as China is concerned, the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises, no matter from any country, should be protected, as long as the cooperation is on Sri Lankan territory, abiding by Sri Lankan laws and international rules, and being approved by the Sri Lankan government. Only by doing this could the government ensure the confidence of foreign investors and the continuous development of its own country,” he said.
He said it was an open bid funded by Asian Development Bank(ADB). “Sri Lanka is a sovereign state which has the right to choose the most suitable contractor for its biggest interest,” he said .

Unfortunately we are trapped in a geopolitical manipulation by all these big countries..we have had a non alliance policy before . Neither China nor India give us any thing free of charge. Now diplomatic relations have become a money making machine .There is no ethics and moral principles in dealing with some small countries like ours. Our leaders should know how to put our national interest above the personal interest.. Unfortunately something has terribly gone wrong in foreign policy making .I think now we do not have highly qualified professionals in foreign ministry and our embassies abroad. Our politicians are mislead by some our diplomatic and civil servants on this matter. 22 million people pay the price for this political blunder of our POLITICIANS and diplomatic missions. We are trapped in debt by all these countries. We need to develop our country but it should be sustainable development..we do not have such a balanced policy in our nation building process

to all in favor of India who live in Sri Lanka, look around you. How many Indian vehicles you see in SL roads and how many of Chinese. How many Indians do you see here in SL and how many Chinese. Who owns the some of the biggest conglomerates in SL. Go back in history. Who messed with SL sovereignty. India takes from SL and create mess. China take from us and give something back. Keep geo politics aside. No rocket science.
