The Constitutional Council (CC) today unanimously approved the nomination made by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to appoint High Court Judge M.D. S. Abeyratne as the Court of Appeal judge.
The vacancy was created after the retirement of Court of Appeal Judge Deepali Wijesundara.
The CC meeting chaired by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya was held today for the first time after the new government came to office at the parliament complex attended by TNA Leader R. Sampanthan, Mahinda Samarasinghe and JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake, parliament sources said.
The Speaker, Prime Minister and Opposition Leader were entitled to attend the CC meeting.
However, the opposition leader had not attended the CC meeting today as the name of the opposition leader was not officially announced in parliament. Sajith Premadasa was nominated by the UNP for the post. (Ajith Siriwardana)

How did Mahinda Samarasinghe creep in there. He has no voice as Sirisena is no more the President.
