Your editorial today is timely and thought provoking. All the political parties should pay serious attention to the points you have made,if they are really interested in improving the quality of the members of Parliament. In this respect,it may be useful to follow the changes adopted in the Indian Loksabha elections. Nominations were given to younger persons and the majority of them were academically and professionally qualified. More women were given nomination. The need to adopt a new Constitution has engaged the serious attention of many political parties in Sri Lanka in recent times. For this purpose many are of the view that members of the Parliament should form into a Constituent assembly. This too emphasis the necessity to nominate suitable persons to the Parliament.

"Therefore, it is now up to the political party leaders and the party nomination committees to select candidates with decent track records to be nominated for Parliament."- Problem is, where to find suitable candidates who are willing to enter the jungle of Sri Lankan Politics?
