Deputy Minister of Policy Planning Dr. Harsha De Silva today charged that Opposition MP Bandula Gunawardene had gone missing after calling him for a public debate on the state of the economy.

“I called him and then left a message in Facebook asking him to give a date for the public debate, but he is still to reply and I wonder where he had gone to,” Dr. De Silva told a media briefing today.

He said such debates should take place so that people of today’s thinking society could get to know the facts on the economy. However, he said there should be a proper debate without using abusive words and slinging mud at each other. (Yohan Perera and Sanath Desmond)

Debate is good but the outcome,as usual, is a personal mud singing context as seen in the above comments.Dr. Silva should put down on paper the state of economy and answer the questions raised in black and white first. The reasons for state of the economy can be explained later. We need facts and figures first as that given by Bandula.

It is pathetic of some people who comment here as if these people are going for a brawl or something. The challenge is to come for a debate and it gives the opportunity for the public to have a balanced view of what is going on. Based on that individuals will form their own opinion based on the facts presented. Unfortunately most of the debates get attraction when there is lot of heat. shout and mud sligning which takes the focus out of the main point. Now I am thinking there is no surprise in having that attraction seeing the comments above. We lack true intelligent heads thinking wisely to involve in our politics and share their views. It is very clear the majority of these social media users are just intelligent enough to read an article or watch video but not to involve in an intelligent conversation. It tells the sorry state where our mother land is in....
