Video: Hold general election after 19A: Sobitha Thera

24 April 2015 09:20 am - 18     - {{hitsCtrl.values.hits}}

National Movement for Social Justice (NMSJ) Leader Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera said today parliament should be dissolved and the general election held after enacting the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.

He said what they wanted was not to bring any political party to power but to abolish the executive presidency through the required amendments to the Constitution.

“We are not interested in which party comes to power whether UNP, SLFP or JVP. What we want is to introduce the necessary amendments to the Constitution,” the Thera said.

He requested all MPs to vote for the 19th Amendment and said those who oppose it would be considered as traitors.

“We request the people to take to the streets and urge the 225 MPs to support the 19th Amendment to the Constitution. We will never get such an opportunity in the future and the MPs should not miss out on such an opportunity,” the Thera said.

logic is clear he do not want 20 A which is definitely bad for UNP

    yahapalan Friday, 24 April 2015 03:27 PM

20A is equally important... it was mentioned that 100days was not in orginal plan... why why are we not going for 20A? defies logic.

    Blessing Friday, 24 April 2015 05:17 PM

I respect the Thera but the Meeharakas in the present Parliament will never allow this to pass.

    Waco Saturday, 25 April 2015 11:55 AM

19A will not do any good to the country. We must have the Presidential elections ASAP.

    Nish Friday, 24 April 2015 03:32 PM

That means 20A will never get passed. Wonder who is behind sobhitha thero.

    FYI Friday, 24 April 2015 05:21 PM

The whole country is behind Sobitha Thero.

WK Costa Saturday, 25 April 2015 12:17 PM

Motivation behind 19A is fatal to the country and this is not something people asked for. This 2 theros are in a mission of personal revenge on hatred acting against the real Buddhist values.

    Ryder Friday, 24 April 2015 05:27 PM

A decade later Sobitha thero will be blamed for weak governments and lack of development.

    Yasith Friday, 24 April 2015 05:29 PM

and who did decide these changes are necessary for the constitution? Jayampathi wickramarathne? then god save this country.

    G.M. Jayawardena Saturday, 25 April 2015 12:43 PM

These religious leaders do not know the fallen govt service problems in Health, Education, Transport and other services, those are faced by the ordinary peoples in this country. They should do what they are supposed to be doing not politics please.

man hatton Friday, 24 April 2015 05:39 PM

This is common goal that every one should have at this point of time. This is the only way forward to a peace full country.
