Bribery Comm. DG denies receiving two salaries

Categorically denying the allegations that she received two salaries Bribery Commission Director General Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe yesterday requested the Commission’s Chairman to conduct a full-scale probe into her actions.

Speaking to Daily Mirror at 9.30pm today from her office at the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, the DG said that she was innocent and was ready to prove her innocence at any forum.

Ms. Wickramasinghe said that the baseless and frivolous allegations were made to demoralise her and prevent her from fighting corruption.

She had requested the Chairman of the Commission, Justice Jagath Balapatabendi, to conduct a full scale probe and stated her willingness to support it in any form.

A group of SLFP Parliamentarians, led by MP Manusha Nanayakkara, had lodged a complaint against the incumbent DG claiming that she had received two salaries in 2002, whilst working at the Attorney General’s Department and also as a Consultant to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka. They like to fabricate stories and demoralise the DG so that she would devote more time in defending herself thereby having no time to open the "can of worms" which they fear! Draw some Dutch courage and do your duty, regardless of what they say of you. This would have been expected.

This should be investigated and findings made public. However, we also know the tract record of the complainant,Mabusha Nanayakara, how he contested under UNP, broke 108 coconuts in temple to assure he will not leave UNP but crossed over within a few months - guess for what benefits?

does this suggests that most of other complains made by these politikkas are also baseless ? I think they need to abandon this commission as it has become a joke and start a new ministry or something which screen all complains for their authenticity and bring laws to maintain confidentiality of all complains until proven guilty. Otherwise it is only a media show like a "mega teledrama" . every day something new and never ending,
