Responding to reports which said his wife was to be arrested in a few days the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna (JNP) Leader and former minister Wimal Weerawansa said his wife, Shashi Weerawansa was only asked to come to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on February 19.

In a statement Mr. Weerawansa said this request was made by the CID in writing though the Talangama Police on February 18.

The Former Minister said they had informed the CID that his wife was not able to come on that date since she was indisposed.

Therefore he said a request was made to postpone the inquiry through a lawyer while a medical report was also submitted.

However, he said she had to be hospitalised since her condition worsened. He said this was done after informing the CID.

Mr. Weerawansa therefore said an agreement was reached with the CID to carry out an inquiry after her recovery on a new day.

The JNP Leader charged that interrogation of his wife was aimed at destroying him politically.

He said the request for his wife to report to CID was made just hours after he participated in a political rally in Nugegoda on February 18.

Why not arrest and put her in Prison Hospital?

    Bassa Sunday, 22 February 2015 05:25 PM

This is a Joke. Why is this female being given preferential treatment.?If any ordinary person was caught with two passports based on different personal information he or she would have been first arrested, produced before a Magistrate and even remanded for two weeks. And now this clown has the audacity to allege victimisation.

Why is everybody full of such venom before anything is proved? Illness can affect anybody, anytime. How do you people sleep at night - with so much hatred about things you actually know nothing about?

Why do people resort to a fraud and apply for a different passport with a changed name and changed date of birth?Normally if a western country (USA, UK, EU etc) has refused a visa, they put a stamp on the passport that Visa refused, and normally one cannot apply again fo a visa for that countryIn the case of Mrs Weerawansa, Police spokesman says they cannot trace the papers relating to her application for two NICs. Why not check from US, UK, EU embassies to see if any visa has been refused on the old passport?
