Prime Minister Ranil Wickramsinghe has announced today that the Parliament will be dissolved by April 23 this year.

He had stated this at a meeting held for UNP organisers in Kandy. "We should start the organising now and work hard towards establishing a UNP government at the upcoming general election," he had stated.

Meanwhile  he had also commented on the 2015 interim budget that was presented before the Parliament on Thursday.

"We have given a lot of benefits and relief for the people through this budget. . . Our aim is to lend a helping hand for everyone to prosper economically irrelevant of their political affiliations," he had said while adding that it is pointless to become multi-millionaires if that money has been earned by heavily taxing the poor and through corrupt deals.

He had also pledged to secure the futures of the youth and children. "I am not a person who hugs and embraces children, but I will ensure that their futures are secure," he added.

The PM had also emphasized on the importance of steering the country in a new direction.

"This country has to be completely turned around from its present plight - the eduation and health sectors have to be developed and there is a need to generate over one millioin jobs for the youth. . .," he had stated.  ( JAL Jayasinghe )

Hon. Ranil, I remind you that there are broken promises made to the 100-day program, Please make sure that all promises are fulfilled what you have mentioned during the campaign. You must remember that there are a lot of people in Sri Lanka who are facing hardships and unable to cover their daily basis costs who have been a burden by the high interests in their bank accounts. May God shows mercy to the ones who failed to understand the supremacy of the UNP.

You have to contest as a team under the "Swan" symbol. At the last elections I voted for the "Swan" and not the elephant. Why, the "Swan" was nice and fresh and clean (literally and logically). The "Elephant" is not fresh and carried a lot of bad baggage.

Do not forget to look after the injured / disable soldiers. Encourage pele to visit them at least once a year and spend few hours with them. They should be treated as national Herod .

Just because one person misuse the powers, do not abolish the Executive Presidency. If required make the Executive President answerable to the parliament. Your uncle Hon:J.R.Jayawardana never misused the powers.

Hon RW,What do you mean by this/"This country has to be completely turned around from its present plight - the education and health sectors have to be developed and there is a need to generate over one million jobs for the youth."I am sure new Govt is planning to get rid of Free Education and Free Health Services. If so please be aware that people did not vote for that. That will be the end of this Govt.

The interim budget expects to increase the allocation to education to being 6% of GDP. How do you conclude that free education is to be got rid off ?

Lets work hard to bring this country to a better place for the future generation. Politicians are chosen by people not the other way around, I think Ranil is a decent man we just have to give him a chance. Hope he will start with the law and order in the country regardless of what political party you are.

Ranil wick is called Mr. Clean not for nothing. He is a very honourable leader who thought countrt first. Sure the corrupt politicians will be taken to task but dont forget that the last govt was the most corrupt in our entire history by far. It is true Maithree tge president is also honorable but its a well known fact that Ranil is a visionary and unp is a business and Economy oriented party and majority of the budget proposal is theirs. Plus the president was voted by a majority unp voter

Sir, if UNP is going to contest all alone, votes may break and you may not get enough votes, probably SLFP can give a fight and may win too. It is better to contest as a team joining with JHU, JVP, SLFP

The simple budget, mini100 days abolishing Presidency is acceptable and the election is 23 April. Why not let the new party in power to decide on devolution of north and east, instead of Mangala pushing for 1 million overseas votes when we have 20 million Sri Lankans. Dog and bone story when the dog look into the pond seeing another dog with the bone he let his bone go thinking of taking the other bone and eventually nothing. Always please the majority first than the minority. All equal rights and fairness. But One Sri Lanka. Tamils here are Sri Lankan Tamils and Tamils in India are Indian Tamils.

RW was appointed Prime Minister by the President, while there was a Prime Minister already in the Parliament. The earlier Prime Minister did not resign nor was he legally sacked, then how can RW make decisions pertaining to the country when he is in Parliament illegally?
