The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) said today that the discussions held with President Maithripala Sirisena with regard to their school admission issue ended on a positive note on Wednesday with the President assuring them that he would mediate to find a solution to the issue.
GMOA Media Spokesman Dr. Samantha Ananda said the President had assured them that he would arrange a meeting between Education Ministry officials and the GMOA next week to find a solution to the issue.
“The discussion between President and the GMOA was successful. The government has provided medical officers with pensions and schools for their children as an act of motivation for the duty they rendered throughout the country,” he said.
Dr. Ananda said the President admitted the fact that privileges given to doctors for school admissions was a policy decision and not a special privilege given to a particular sector.
He said they pointed out to the President that there were no equal opportunities in education whereas it was so in the health sector and added that the President promised to formulate a mechanism to enhance primary education in collaboration with the Presidential Secretariat, the GMOA and other relevant institutions. I have always supported the President but this is too much. Is the Government trying to create a super class of doctors and their children? At this rate the common people in this country have no propects of upliftment of their families.

It is also high time the other top professionals (like me who worked in "out of the way" places like me at Samanalawewa, Randenigala, Laxapana Power Stations) ,AND some (of these Professionals) who cannot carry the prefix to their name as "Dr") should also "meet the President" as well. We also went through a 4 , 5 , 6 year courses in the our FREE EDUCATION universities to obtain our Degrees, MSc's and our Doctorates . Incidentally we carry the PRE FIX "Dr" , as it ENTITLES us the title "Doctor" due the highest Degree (PhD) of the university (local or Foreign) and Not because we have just gone through a basic under graduate degree !

These doctors now say the government has provided pensions and schools as motivation. Can these people admit how much the government pay to give them free education and make them doctors. This is public money. Once they become doctors they work only limited hours in the government hospitals, Gets duty free permits to buy the best of cars. Do they do any remarkable service for people. No they get involved in politics to look only after their kind. How many patients have died because of their carelessness and negligence. I hope the present President will think of all the people of the country and act to keep these parasites in line.

Highest income earners in society want everything for free. When you get something for free from the Govt., it is subsidized by the poor!
