The water level in the Kelani River is falling and should return to less than five feet during the next few days, the Irrigation Department said.
Director General of the department S. S. L Weerasinghe said water levels had dropped to six feet, a foot below the major flood level.

Future flooding of the Kelani river can cause much disaster to life and property unless the State takes remedial action once the rains cease.
