Adverse weather: Death toll rises to 64

The number of deaths caused by floods and landslides had increased to 64, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said today.

It said so far more than 400,000 people of some 100,000 families had been badly affected.

“About 131 people are still missing and 29 people are injured,” it said.

    This situation clearly shows that corrupted individuals generate greater amounts of income and capital than others rendering poor standard of living to innocent civilians.This has led to the rich getting richer and the poor poorer, with economic power becoming concentrated in relatively few hands in Sri Lanka.

    It shows the lack of responsibility and accountability of the govt official and at large the govt itself. The warning came as early as in Jan from NASA and other sources but no preparation to minimize the risk until it became an issue.
