An Open Letter to the President, and the Prime Minister

Your Excellencies,
Tamil Nadu appears determined to annex Sri Lanka. This news is certainly not the most auspicious note on which to commence our New Year. The Indian Union Minister Radhakrishnan had said this week that the Centre was firm in its proposal to build a bridge across the Palk Strait, connecting Dhanushkodi, the eastern tip of Rameshwaram island and to Talaimannar in Sri Lanka.
Talking to reporters in Tamil Nadu he had said that the project was in the preliminary stages but the Indian Government was firm in going ahead with it and realise the dream of Mahakavi Bharathi.
He has also said that the Sri Lankan Government was expected to give its nod for the project, we do hope that this is most definitely NOT TRUE for that would, without doubt, spell the end of our National Unity Government.

"We need a bridge to Tamil Nadu like we need a hole in our heads,  millions of poor, exploited, ill treated, low caste Tamils from Tamil Nadu, will without doubt, pour into Lanka, encouraged by the Upper caste Tamils, who would seek to get rid of them. "

Radhakrishnan has further stated that once the project was executed, Danushkodi, which became a ghost town after the 1964 cyclonic storm, would flourish and the extension of a four-lane highway from Paramakkudi to Rameshwaram and later to Lanka, would be automatically implemented! 
He has also stated that the ADB is prepared to support the project! In answer to a question, Mr. Radhakrishnan said the External Affairs Ministry was taking steps to work out a lasting solution to the vexatious issue of the fishermen and the question of retrieving Kachchathivu would be decided if it came in the way of working out a lasting solution to the problem of the bridge!!!!
This is not the first time that Radhakrishnan, a native of Tamil Nadu, has, as expected, brought up the matter of the bridge to link Sri Lanka and India. 
This, no doubt is with a view to surreptitiously annexing our country to India and, for it to someday end up as a part of the Republic of Tamil Nadu, which they sought to create in the 1960s, but was put on a backburner as a result of the Indo-China War or at worst as a State of the Indian Union.  This clandestine attempt MUST be beheaded off at all costs.  Radhakrishnan has stated that the project would be expedited, once a case relating to the Ram Sethu bridge before their Supreme Court, is disposed of. 
The Minister has stated that India was keen on implementing the project, quite naturally, because it is in her interest to annex this country by any means. We need a bridge to Tamil Nadu like we need a hole in our heads,  millions of poor, exploited, ill treated, low caste Tamils from Tamil Nadu, will without doubt, pour into Lanka, encouraged by the Upper caste Tamils, who would seek to get rid of them. 
With the booming Indian economy which is many, many times stronger than ours, we would also have an economic invasion despite whatever controls that would be built into an FTA or a CPA or the new TCPA; this country would be helpless for even Japan and the US would not interfere, as they would be thinking of their interests not ours.

Let us not forget that when India indulged in the infamous Food Drop violating our territorial integrity and our sovereignty, not even the US, which was considered a friend by the J.R. Jayewardene  Government, even protested, they like the EU, refused to even express concern. 
Let us therefore look after our interests and ensure that this wretched bridge will never be built for we do not need this bridge to promote trade or any other form of relations between our two countries—our relationship is a ‘Blood Relationship’ and extends to thousands of years, let us seek to protect it, this bridge will, without any doubt, ruin the relationship.
We must start a Mass Movement against this weird project.  
I request the Buddhist Clergy and the Clergy of all other religions in our country and all civil society organisations and all political parties and the Media (including the ‘Social Media’) to come together to counter this South Indian master plan. Perhaps the patriotic Friday Forum, Social Activist Dr. Anula Wijesundera, Architect Tilak Samarawickrema, Rajeeva Jayaweera, who wrote recently against this Bridge idea, could give leadership to a movement to head off this disaster.
My reasons for writing this open letter to both our President and the Prime Minister is because there is much anxiety and concern over this issue judging by the mails I have been receiving since I first wrote on the issue of this bridge. The second concern is that there has been no transparency, Indian Ministers have been waxing eloquent on this important issue but we have not heard from the government, what its position is, or whether they have at any stage indicated to India that we would welcome this initiative of theirs.
We must have a clear statement on this vital issue from either the President or the Prime Minister or from them the both.
