Prof. Vishwa Waranapala passes away

UPFA’s General Secretary and former minister Prof. Vishwa Waranapala has passed away this morning at a private hospital in Colombo at the age of 79.
 
In August, 2015, Prof Warnapala was appointed as the UPFA General Secretary after the resignation of former General Secretary Susil Prmajayantha.

Prof Warnapala, who held the Cabinet Minister portfolio of Higher Education, has been an active member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, the main coalition partner of the UPFA, since his university days. In the 1980 he was appointed to the SLFP Central Committee by former Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike.
