The Nawala residence of businessman and opposition member Tiran Alles came under a grenade attack early this morning damaging his house and vehicle, an opposition spokesman told Daily Mirror online. Alles had reportedly managed to escape any harm as a result of the attack.

The house and vehicle of Alles, who is the General Secretary of the SLFP Mahajana wing, caught fire after the attack. The fire brigade was called in to douse the flames. (ISA)

Meanwhile speaking to Daily Mirror Tiran Alles said that the main reason behind the attack was that the government thought he was responsible for leaking the photograph of the Presidents son Namal Rajapakse together with LTTE operative Emil Kanthan. (SD)

Canadian paper carry a article recently that MRs son NR has purchased a house in Manhatton USA from where did he find so much money (3 million US dollars) to buy a house in USA

    Friday, 22 January 2010 05:54 AM

The govt will say he attacked his own house to get sympathy.. wow its quite an effective way to scapegoat, when we have a highly gullible population

    Friday, 22 January 2010 05:58 AM

    OWN GOAL habibi...

    Friday, 22 January 2010 06:10 AM

So much for the "free and fair" election. Is there any limits to the intimidation for an alternative opinion. It looks like we need to change our country's name from "democratic" to "jungle law". How MR, even if he wins, could call him an elected leader?

Unless we come out from these vicius circle ther is no point in going through the painfull election process.

    Mohamed.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 06:11 AM

    How come he escaped ?

Fonseka doesn't need sympathy he is going to win this election. This is tactic by the government to fear Fonseka's polling booth agent and his supporters.

let all go early in the morning an vote for SF next President of Sri Lanka .

    Friday, 22 January 2010 07:50 AM

    Friday, 22 January 2010 04:43 PM

    Friday, 22 January 2010 06:30 PM

Sri Lanka is a 'banana republic': No law & order! It's high time people realise the standards set up by these 'low lives'.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 06:32 PM

It's an 'inside job': no one hurt!

    Friday, 22 January 2010 07:38 PM

A well planned plot, to disgrace the government!

    Friday, 22 January 2010 08:56 PM

Everyone knows who was behind this attack! Blaming 'deserters,' is misleading!

    Friday, 22 January 2010 09:29 PM

    Saturday, 23 January 2010 07:18 AM

    Hey Suresh,

I understand perfectly your lament. There will never be peace in this country.First we fight with the North, now we fight in the south.By most ,not all comments, seen from above you realize that each one, supposed to be educated ,are fighting each other
Though we claim to have 2500 years of civilization we are still uncivilzed the way we think. So God save Sri Lanka.

    Saturday, 23 January 2010 09:04 AM

Agreed - public not as gullible as you to believe it is self inflicted like WW's attempt with unknown Muzamil.

    Saturday, 23 January 2010 09:16 AM

it's "two birds from one stone." :)

    Saturday, 23 January 2010 09:19 AM

isn't that the typical government response these days? When something bad happens they always say its the Victim's fault. Sigh, when will this mentality change? shame on Prabath and well said Ramesh

    Saturday, 23 January 2010 09:24 AM

Common Tiran, hang in there buddy! In 3 more days you will be king and rule the world again. Our prayers are with you.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 03:27 AM

As UNP'ers say this also can be a self arranged attack to garner sympathy to help Fonseka.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 01:30 AM

whoever motivates violence indirectly supports his opposition and makes easy way to his opponent's victory. Violence never ever a tool of victory

    Friday, 22 January 2010 02:09 AM

Tiran, I am an ardent student of your father from DSS 1981 batch,.

Your father RIT Alles Sir showed early on how to have unity among communities and and also uphold "Thamata Pera Ratta" (Country before self")

I pray for you and your family.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 02:13 AM

    Friday, 22 January 2010 02:34 AM

Another grenade from SF's private collection missing!

    Friday, 22 January 2010 02:54 AM

haha.poor Tiran Alles just lost his vehicle and the house because of mangala's Poor Planing.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 03:09 AM

Dirty politician Managala samaraweera's well planed game. yesterday night he told Tiran Alsas having dead threat.

Mr. samaraweera this is not 1980's peoples know about you and your colleagues.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 03:10 AM

if this is what happens just before the presidential election, dread to imagine what would happen after!

    Friday, 22 January 2010 03:13 AM

This is a foreign conspiracy whereby Tiran has obtained money from Norway to bomb his own house and get sympathy votes for Fonseka.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 03:17 AM

Did the fire brigade come on time? Are the police investigating?

    Friday, 22 January 2010 03:19 AM

According to the ruling party, the attack was a result of an International conspiracy !

    Friday, 22 January 2010 12:51 AM

In the absence of LTTE, who else can have grenade?

    Friday, 22 January 2010 03:31 AM

Yesterday Tiran has said to newspapers that he is under threat and his life is in danger. This is reported in singhala news paper today. This morning his house was attacked without any casualty.

Who is he going to fool? Public ?
Certainly not. This is age old tested trick by majority mean politicians. Perhaps he is planning to contest next general elections and after certain defeat of presidential election he is trying get cheap publicity.

Public no more gulible to believe these self inflicted stories.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 03:33 AM

Mr. Tiran, how much you are getting from the INSURANCE??
two birds from a one shot...

    Friday, 22 January 2010 03:43 AM

CID will find the culprits in an years time, or when the next elections are due. Like the eyewitness found in Lasantha W's assasination. Isn't this stupid? What does this govt think of the people of this country?

    Friday, 22 January 2010 03:56 AM

probably it is not a granade attack, the vehicle caught fire due to a wire short in his residence and the sound of the explotion came from the petrol tank. You cant fool our police. if it is granade attack they will find the culprits within hours.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 03:56 AM

This is done to make a bad impression about Government

    Friday, 22 January 2010 03:58 AM

OK OK we sympathise and vote for SF. Are you happy?

    Friday, 22 January 2010 04:09 AM

Look at the photos published by DM. This clearly shows it is a real drama to attract sympathy votes. Can a grenade cause such a large damage - Car/garage in pieces... large part of the house is burnt...yet, Tiran escapes unharmed.... If a grenade can do such damage, what about a claymore or a artilery shell?

    Friday, 22 January 2010 04:33 AM

People will make comments blaming one party or the other pretty soon.

People who said the UPFA candidate bombing was real (act of the UNP),
are now blaming UNP saying that the bomb attack on UNP office is staged by UNP.

Similarly, People who said that the UPFA candidate bombing was staged by the UPFA are now saying that the
UNP Office bombing is not staged and that its real (act of the UPFA).

When are we going to learn to wait till the investigations are over before passing judgements (clouded by party politics)

    Friday, 22 January 2010 04:35 AM

Hi - There are no PERMANENT Friends or PERMANENT Enemies in POLITICS, so they say. Where was this gentleman during the last Presidential Election 2005? Where is he now? All these people are trying to ERADICATE POVERTY of the Sri Lankan People. But ultimately what happened- Eradicate Poverty of whom?. This game will go on for ever. They will become friends again. nihalg

    Friday, 22 January 2010 05:13 AM

Damn good for him! he's the fellow who brokered the deal between LTTE and MR and prevented the tamil people from using their right to vote at the last election... now he's getting it from his own types...what goes round comes round... ditta dhamma to the hilt!!

    Friday, 22 January 2010 05:14 AM

Nice stunt...Tiran....I know you are cable of pulling off stunts like this...oh no injuries too....we'll pre-planed...so what the insurance claim for the house ?

    Friday, 22 January 2010 05:17 AM

Really sorrowful, what's happening to democracy in our country.
