The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today ordered the television stations which covered UNP MP Hirunika Premachandra’s news briefing -- on the abduction of a man at Dematagoda -- to hand over their video footage to the Police.

This order was given in sequent to a motion filed by the Wellampitiya Police requesting that the video footage of the news briefing be handed over to them to be forwarded to the Attorney General’s Department.

The Magistrate also ordered that the suspect -- whose wife is alleged to have had a relationship with the abducted man – be placed in a separate cell. (T. Farook Thajudeen)

A great political journey cut in its prime because she could not handle power. Maybe it is hereditary. I wish that she was smart as she was pretty.

Under which section of the law are people who have extra marital relationships " placed in a separate cell "? Does this apply to all citizens, if yes, then they will have to build a separate prison or remand to put these people behind bars.

Actually the offence here is kidnapping/ assault. The suspect has been put in a separate cell. It is the victim who has had an extramarital relationship.

She acknowledged abduction which since taken place in the daylight, could not be refused. However and after all she will be freed with no charges.

It is certainly interesting to see whether the AG sees the same footage as the rest of the country

Let a hybrid court decide about her, the UN recommended hybrid judicial system to Sri Lanka because our judicial system is not 100% acceptable for the world.

She should have said GOOD BYE to politics as soon as this incident came in to light. That way she will be remembered as a true politician.
