Sri Lanka win two medals on opening day of Asian Junior Athletics C’ships

Sri Lanka won two medals on the opening day of the 20th Asian Junior Athletics Championships today, with Tharushi Dissanayake and Jayeshi Hewage winning silver and bronze respectively in the girls 400m. 

Dissanayake clocked 53.7 seconds, .39 secs behind gold medal winner Heena Rezoana Mallick of India. 

Hewage clocked a time of 55.51 secs. 
 
Meanwhile, Dinara Rashmi Bandara progressed to the semi-final in the 100m for girls, winning her heat with a time of 12.04 secs.

In the boys event, Julian Wijesinghe clocked a personal best time of 10.75 secs, but it was not good enough to take him into the finals of the event. 

He finished sixth in the second semi-final. 

In the boys 800m Hasantha Shehan Dilranga finished sixth in his heat, which was not good enough to take him into the semi-finals.
