Eight individuals were arrested by the Nawagamuwa police today over the assault on Pallegama Sumana Thera and two women inside a house at Bomiriya, Rassapana in Nawagamuwa.

Police said four individuals were arrested and released on police bail on a previous day after the monk had complained that when he and a woman related to him and her daughter were staying inside a house, a group of youth who had forcibly entered the house had assaulted them and caused damages to the furniture in the house.

The eight suspects who were arrested today are to be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate's Court.

Public Security Minister Tiran Alles had ordered Western Province DIG Deshabandu Thennakoon and the Nawagamuwa OIC to arrest and implement the law against the suspects who had taken the law into their own hands and assaulted the monk and the two women. (Buddhika Kumarasiri)
