It has been decided to provide extra protection to polling stations on election day with cardboard cubicles being fixed with transparent screens covering the front portion with polythene. A representative of the company which had produced them is seen with a sample brought to the Election Commission office yesterday.

A total of 18 cattle were found dead this morning following a collision with a tipper on the A9 road at Paranthan, Kilinochchi.The 18 cattle belonged to diary farmers who had been maintaining them in a plot of land outside the cultured areas of the Iranamadu lake.
