Vidyartha rout Sylvestrians

Vidyartha College continued their impressive run in the inter school league rugby tournament Division 1 Segment B with a commanding 41-17 victory over St. Sylvester’s College at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium. 

The winners scored seven tries converting three of them while St. Sylvester’s replied with three tries and converting one of them.

At the short breather the winners led 27/7.

Vidyartha took early control of the contest with their attacking backs and forwards combining effectively to keep the Sylvestrians at bay throughout the game.

Ayodya Fernando emerged as the star performer for Vidyartha, crossing the line for a superb hat-trick of tries. Sadew Dilsara, Oshitha Wijesinghe and Nimesh Arosha also scored tries as Vidyartha built up a comfortable lead. 

Mohammed Rashid was also among the scorers while Ayodya Fernando and Nimesh Arosha successfully made the conversions.

St. Sylvester’s fought back bravely in the second half with Iduranga Gamage scoring twice while Anuhas Wijesinghe added another try. 

Imasha Nethsara converted one of the tries, but Vidyartha’s superior attacking game ensured they remained firmly in control until the final whistle.
