Vidyartha meet St Sylvester’s

By Shamseer Jaleel

Kandy rugby fans are in for a thrilling contest when traditional rivals Vidyartha College and St Sylvester’s College lock horns for the prestigious 12th PML Banda and B Nillegoda Memorial Trophy at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium on Sunday.

Kick-off is scheduled for 3.30 pm.

Vidyartha will head into the encounter hoping to continue their impressive brand of attacking rugby though playing in a lower division during this season.

Vidyartha have built a reputation for their hard running game, physical dominance and ability to strike quickly from breakdown. Their backline has shown plenty of pace throughout the season while the forwards have provided a solid platform with aggressive work in the loose exchanges.

Playing at Nittawela, Vidyartha will be keen to capitalise on familiar conditions and maintain early pressure. They are led by Sadew Dilshara.

Meanwhile, St Sylvester’s is expected to rely on their disciplined and determined style of rugby.

The Sylvestrians have often risen to the occasion in pressure games and are known for their fighting spirit. Their structured defence and tactical kicking game could prove crucial against Vidyartha’s fast paced attack. They are led by Sadew Ekanayake.

On Friday the Rajans will lock horns with St Benedict’s at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium.
