Under 19 cricket semi finals Aveesha slams twin tons as Joes enter final

St Joseph’s College advanced to the final of the Under 19 Division 1 Tier A cricket tournament when they pulled off a close first innings win over Prince of Wales College in a high scoring semifinal encounter at Katana yesterday.

The highlight of the match was twin centuries made by Joes opener Aveesha Samash who hit 122 in the first innings and followed it up with 133 in the second innings.

Prince of Wales in reply to St Joseph’s score of 354 were bowled out for 334 after resuming from their overnight score of 242 for 5, falling short by 20 runs.

St Joseph’s will now meet the winner of the semifinal encounter between Royal College and Trinity College which is in progress now at Maggona.

Kavindu Hettiarachchi’s knock of 82 with eight boundaries and a six helped Wesley to take a first inning slead over arch rivals St Benedict’s at the end of the second day’s play in the Under 19 Division 1 Tier B semifinal encounter played at the Army ground in Kosgama.

A knock of 105 by Dushen Udawela and half centuries by Hirun Liyanaarachchi and Vimath Dinsara helped Royal College taking first lease of the wicket to end day one with a formidable score of 328 for 4 against Trinity College in the Under 19 Division 1 Tier A three day semifinal encounter played at the Surrey Village ground in Maggona.
