Royal prevailed with a first-inning win over Trinity in a high-scoring semi-final encounter of the Under-19 Division 1 Tier A cricket tournament, concluded at the Surrey Village ground in Maggona yesterday.
The effort put in by Trinity skipper Dimantha Mahavithana in the final’s play proved to be in vain. Dimantha, who was unbeaten on 125 at the end of the second day’s play, put in further resistance and succeeded in adding a further 68 runs to make a top knock of 193 that included 16 boundaries and three sixes.
But his unfortunate run out dashed the hopes of the Trinitians, having resumed from their overnight score of 223/5, posted a score of 415 runs, which was in reply to the Royal’s 493/9 declared. The match was called off after the tea break due to rain.
By virtue of the first-inning win, Royal make it to the final, where they will meet St. Joseph’s in the final, which is to be notified in due course.
