Sri Sumangala Central College Hikkaduwa dominated proceedings against Christ King College Ja-Ela on the first day of the three-day final of the Under 19 inter-school Division Two Tier B cricket tournament at Ananda Mawatha in Colombo yesterday.
Shanuka Denuwan and Tharun Damsith were the heroes of Sri Sumangala as the duo put in excellent performances in both departments.
Tharun’s all-round performance first with the bat with a knock of 52 followed by a 61 from Shanuka helped Sri Sumangala taking first lease of the wicket to make a score of 226.
Later Tharun wrecked the opponents’ batting with a five wicket haul and along with Latheendra Akash and Sanjana Nethupul who accounted for five wickets between them combined to bundle them for a paltry 61.
Christ King College made to follow on and left with a task of erasing a deficit of 161 runs were left struggling on 7 for 2.
The match will be continued today.
