Sri Lanka’s emerging players thump and dump Windies



 

The Sri Lanka Emerging XI team with the trophy comprising Dinura Kalupahana (captain), Sharujan Shanmuganathan, Anjala Bandara, Pulindu Perera, Ravindu Rasantha, Asitha Wanninayake, Sahan Kosala, Shakthi Udara, Nisala Abeyratne, Chamika Heenatigala, Chamod Battage, Mihiranga Silva, Tharindu Nirmal, Raveen de Silva and Akmal Fazly

Sri Lanka Emerging XI recorded a crushing innings and 216 runs win over the visiting West Indies Emerging XI with a day to spare in the second unofficial Test match concluded at Sooriyawewa yesterday.

West Indies Emerging XI batting the second time and left with the daunting task of erasing a big deficit of 322 succumbed to the right and left arm spin duo of Asitha Wanninayake and Shakthi Udara who did the early damage with three scalps as they were skittled out for paltry 106.

The highlight of the third day’s play was an unbeaten 105 made by man in-form Anjala Bandara which was his third successive ton following his 163 and an unbeaten 188 made in the first unofficial Test.

Anjala’s knock came off 139 balls with ten boundaries and he shared a big partnership of 156 for the fifth wicket with Sharujan Shanmuganathan who made 74 with seven boundaries.

Sri Lanka Emerging XI resuming from their overnight score of 430 for 4 made a mammoth 553 for 5 declared.
