Sri Lankans leave for U-20 Asian athletics

A Sri Lankan contingent comprising 22 athletes left for Hong Kong to compete at the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships.

The championship, organised by the Asian Athletics Association (AAA), will be held from May 28 to 31 at the Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground in Hong Kong.

The Sri Lankan junior athletics squad consists of 15 male and seven female athletes.

According to the history of the Asian Youth Athletics Championships, Sri Lanka has won a total of 40 medals from 1986 to 2024, including nine gold, 17 silver and 14 bronze medals.

At the previous edition held in Dubai in 2024, Sri Lanka secured two silver medals and four bronze medals.

The championship also serves as an important qualification event for the 2026 World U20 Athletics Championships.
