Sri Lankan track and field athletes in line for 19 events

Sri Lankan track and field athletes will have the opportunity to compete in 19 international athletics events in 2026, according to the newly released International Athletics Calendar published by World Athletics (formerly IAAF).

These events, scheduled across Asia, Europe and other regions, provide Sri Lankan athletes with valuable exposure and qualification prospects ahead of major global competitions.

2026 International Athletics Calendar:

12th Asian Indoor Athletics Championship – Feb 6–8, Tianjin, China

18th Asian Cross Country Championship – Feb 21, Fukuoka, Japan

Asian 20km Race Walking Championship – Mar 15, Nomi City, Japan

6th Asian Beach Games – April 22–30, Sanya, China

UAE Athletics Grand Prix – April 24, Dubai, UAE

2nd Asian Relays Championship – May (Date TBC), India

Busan International Pole Vault Meet – May 22–23, Busan, Korea

22nd Asian Junior Athletics Championship – May 28–31, Hong Kong, China

Taiwan Open Athletics Championship – Jun 6–7, Chinese Taipei

Thailand Open Athletics Championship – June (Date TBC), Bangkok

23rd Commonwealth Games – Jul 23–Aug 2, Glasgow, Scotland

Asian U-23 Athletics Championship – July (Date TBC), Ordos, China

World Athletics U-20 Championship – Aug 5–9, Eugene, Oregon, USA

Asian Throwing Championship – Aug 11–12, Mokpo, South Korea

Astana Marathon (World Athletics Label) – Sep (Date TBC), Kazakhstan

The Ultimate Championship (World Athletics) – Sep 11–13, Budapest, Hungary

20th Asian Games – Sep 24–29, Aichi–Nagoya, Japan

Youth Olympic Games – Oct 30–Nov 15, Dakar, Senegal

Asian Half Marathon – Nov (Date & Host TBC)
