Sri Lankan Akith shines for Melbourne West Cricket Academy



Sri Lankan Akith Abeywickrama domiciled in Melbourne, Australia scored a quick-fire 86 in 65 balls and steered the touring Melbourne West Cricket Academy (under 18) to beat Golden Memorable Athletic Cricket Club (GMACC) in a 50 overs encounter at the Colombo Colts Cricket ground. Melbourne West Cricket Academy was on a 12 day tour of Sri Lanka and played five matches. 

In their 50 overs encounters they won all three games against Sky Cricket Academy, SPS Cricket Academy and GMACC.  In their two T/20 games they lost one and won one, both against St. Joseph’s College, Anuradhapura. They are coached by Upul Fernando, a former club player.  The tour was organised by Suranjith Silva, founder and Managing Director of SS Sports and a former Sri Lanka squad member.  Silva also conducts a Spin Bowling Foundation, where he has helped many youngsters and have donated cricketing equipment to around 75 schools and academies in the Island.
