Unbeaten half tons by Sohan de Livera and Ashan Bandara helped Kandy resuming from their overnight score of 6 for 0 make a bold reply of 253 for 4 in reply to Colombo’s score of 434 for 9 declared on day three of their National Super League cricket encounter played at Dambulla.
Kandy’s score came on the back of two partnerships of an opening stand of 75 runs between Navod Paranavithana and Pawantha Weerasinghe and an unbroken 136 runs stand for the fifth wicket between Sohan who made 92 with seven boundaries and a six and Ashen who hit 55 with four boundaries.
Dambulla was in a strong position against Galle when play ended on day three in another match of the same tournament played at R. Premadasa Stadium.
Dambulla resuming from their overnight score of 381 for 5 helped by half tons from Kavindu Pathiratne and Lahiru Samarakoon who together shared 68 runs for the seventh wicket went on to make a formidable score of 488. Galle batting the second time and left with the task of erasing a deficit of 233 runs was struggling on 159 for 6 and they need another 74 runs to avoid an innings defeat when play gets underway on the final day today.
