  • Wesley 77, Mahanama 3

The highly commercialised world of schools rugby was turned into a farce for the first time as Wesley College became yet another team to prove the new format of the inter-school knock-out tournament was turned on its head as they routed Mahanama College 77-3 in a pre-quarter final match at the Royal Complex ground yesterday.

In the past the knock-out tournament was played after the league from the quarter final stage with only eight qualified teams in the fray.

Wesley raced to a 21-3 lead in the first 20 minutes of play scoring three tries and then made it 35-3 with two more tries even before half time in the lopsided match.

At half time the outcome of the match was already decided with Wesley taking a 42-3 lead after scoring their sixth try.

The havoc continued in the second half as Wesley ran down more tries and took a 70-3 lead with ten minutes still left posting their tenth try against the hapless Mahanama defence.

Wesley signed off scoring their 11 try creating a record by converting all 11 tries in making up their 77 points.
