Nuwara Eliya Golf Club hosted its highly anticipated Club Championship last weekend featuring competitive action across multiple divisions, where both emerging talents and experienced campaigners competed on the iconic hill-country golf course. Claiming the gross winner title, the powerful hitter Sachin de Silva led the tournament with rounds of 81 and 77 for a total of 158.

While delivering this high-calibre performance, he further stamped his authority by unleashing the longest drive on the first hole, sending the ball a staggering 360-plus yards.

Young Kayla Perera put on an equally impressive performance, capturing the Club Championship for the women’s board event gross title.

Her consistency as one of the rising stars was also evident in her runner-up performance at the 2025 Lady Captain’s Cup. Experienced campaigner Ahalya Rajan secured the runner-up position, proving once again her evergreen status.

In the main championship net division, Maj. Gen. Srinath Rajapakse clinched the nett winner crown with a composed two-round aggregate of 152.

With a total of 160, Danushan Kumar was able to claim the gross runner-up position, while Srimal Abeykoon’s strong final-round earned him the nett runner-up position with a total of 154.

Another young sensation Jevahn Sathasivam won the annual Gold Medal, another board event, with a score of 79. He, together with Jacob Norton and Danushan Kumar, were among the front-runners for the Club Championship before it was secured by Sachin de Silva.

The Masters Division saw Prasanna Liyanage emerge as nett winner with a total of 157 while Anura Fernando earned runner-up honours with a total of 161. Meanwhile, in the women’s Captain’s Cup Board event, youngster Kaitlyn Norton showcased her class by capturing the winner’s title.

The Bronze Division competition was dominated by the commanding performance of Deepani Gamage, as she secured both the Club Championship Bronze Gross title and the Captain’s Cup bronze nett event. Darnie Rajapakse, with her consistent performance, finished as the runner-up in both events.

A special prize added extra flair to the championship, as Pradeep Kodikara took home the Nearest to the Pin prize.
