The fourth edition of the Double Blue Hockey 7s (DBH7s) concluded at the Wesley College Ground, bringing together some of Sri Lanka’s finest alumni hockey teams for a day filled with high-intensity action, camaraderie and sportsmanship.
Organised by the Old Wesleyites Sports Club (OWSC), the tournament continued its mission of celebrating Sri Lanka’s rich hockey heritage while honouring the legacy of the late Walter Jayasuriya, regarded as the father of Sri Lankan hockey.
The men’s Cup final delivered a thrilling encounter between Old Josephians Hockey Club and Old Nalanda Hockey Club with the match ending in a dramatic 2-2 draw at full time.
Old Josephians held their nerve during the penalty shootout to emerge champions with a 3-2 victory on penalties and claim the coveted title.
On their road to the final, Old Josephians defeated Old Anandians 1-0 in the first semi-final, while Old Nalanda edged past Old Wesleyites in a closely contested second semi-final that ended 2-2 before Nalanda secured a 3-2 penalty shootout victory.
The Bowl final saw Old Anandians overcome Old Wesleyites with a narrow 1-0 victory, while Old Kingswoodians defeated Royal Hockey Club 2-0 to secure the Plate Championship.
The women’s Cup final showcased an exciting contest between Musaeus College Past Pupils Association and Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya Old Girls Association where Musaeus emerged victorious with a 2-1 win to lift the title.
