New Star Sports Club of Colombo, Serendib Sports Club of Mawanella and Police Sports Club emerged as the early front-runners of the FFSL Champions League football tournament remaining unbeaten with six points each at the end of the third week of matches.
The tournament, organised by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL), features 14 teams and is scheduled to run until the end of January 2026, with a total of 85 matches to be played.
After a brief interruption caused by adverse weather conditions, the Champions League resumed and by the conclusion of the third week, New Star SC and Serendib SC had both recorded two consecutive victories in Group ‘A’, collecting six points apiece to sit jointly at the top of the group standings.
In Group ‘B’, Police Sports Club stood out as the only unbeaten side, also winning both of their matches to claim six points and lead the group.
At the other end of the table, Crystal Palace, Java Lane SC and SLTB SC in Group ‘A’, along with St. Mary’s SC Moragasmulla, Solid SC and defending champion Matara City SC in Group ‘B’, are yet to register a win in the competition. The FFSL Competition Committee has rescheduled the fourth week of matches in view of the Christmas holiday and the fixtures will now be played on December 26, 27 and 28.
With the league gaining momentum, the battle for supremacy is expected to intensify as teams look to strengthen their positions heading into the festive fixtures.
