Kandy SC claims 9 million spent travelling to Colombo

Crowd-pulling Kandy Sports Club have conveyed to Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) that it incurred nearly Rs. 9 million in expenses to make as many as eight trips down to Colombo to honour their inter club League fixtures and were in no position to make another journey  to play in the Colombo leg of the Sevens tournament.

In contrast to Kandy SC, all other teams in the League made just one trip to Kandy or outside their home ground.

Kandy SC said it told SLR that they could only contest the Kandy leg of the Sevens in order to afford its players the opportunity to stand for selection to the Sri Lanka team for the Asian Sevens.

But SLR said contesting both legs of the inter club Sevens in Colombo and Kandy was mandatory for all clubs with no exceptions granted.

Kandy SC was also dragged into what was called a grand final or play-off match against table toppers CR and FC to decide the League winners in Colombo which was never the scenario in the past.
