Senuja Wekunegoda shone for St Joseph’s College against Royal College on day one of their Under 19 Division One Tier A cricket tournament final played at the P Sara Stadium yesterday.
Heavy rain put an early stoppage with the match being called off at 4.00 p.m. and only 61 overs of play possible with St Joseph’s taking first lease of the wicket on 226 for 4.
Senuja cracked an unbeaten 118 and his knock comprised of 12 boundaries and two sixes and he came to the rescue of his side when they had lost the top three wickets within five overs with the score on 11.
Senuja along with skipper Risham Amarasinghe who made 73 with nine boundaries and two sixes took them safety and they succeeded to put on a valuable 179 runs stand for the fourth wicket.
This followed with Senuja putting on an unbroken 36 runs for the fifth wicket with Chethina Kavinda before heavy rain forced the umpires to call off play. The match will be continued today.
