The Under 19 Division 1 Tier A semifinal encounter between St Joseph’s College and Prince of Wales College was poised at an interesting stage when play ended on day two at Katana yesterday.
The second day’s play had Prince of Wales resuming from their overnight score of 3 for 0 being guided by Thusindu Deemantha who remained unbeaten on 102.
Thusindu associating in two fruitful partnerships of 67 runs for the third wicket with Oshan Maneesha and 108 runs for the fourth wicket with Gawesha Fernando that helped Prince of Wales to end day two with a score of 242 for 5.
The Joes need to bag five wickets and the Cambrians need to make a further 113 runs to gain a first inning lead to book a berth to the final.

Exchanges were even at the end of the first day’s play in the Under 19 Division 1 Tier B semifinal encounter between St Benedict’s and Wesley played at the Army ground in Kosgama.
St Benedict’s taking first lease of the wicket underwent some anxious moments as they lost their top four wickets with the score on 59 before Sithum Hasaranga who made an unbeaten 67 came to their rescue.
