Australia beat Ireland in their Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup match at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday coming out for the first time.
Defending a total of 182 was never a mighty concern for Australia as they bundled out the Irish for 115 as Adam Zampa and Nathan Ellis accounted for eight wickets.
Having no hesitation to bat first after winning the toss, Australia had an initial hiccup when opener Travis Head was run-out for 6 in the second over before Josh Inglis (37), Cameron Green (21) and Matt Renshaw (37) piled on the runs while in-between Glenn Maxwell was dismissed for just nine runs.
But Marcus Stoinis had it his way with 45 in 29 balls striking two sixes to ensure Australia had a total to defend.
Scores:
Australia 182 for 6 in 20 overs (Josh Inglis 37, Cameron Green 21, Matt Renshaw 37, Marcus Stoinis 45, Mark Adair 2 for 44)
Ireland 115 in 16.5 overs (Locan Tucker 24, George Dickrell 41, Nathan Ellis 3 for 12, Adam Zampa 4 for 23)
