Athletics secretary wins and quits

Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) Secretary General Madhawa Bandara Senarath has resigned from his post with immediate effect, citing personal reasons, according to an official letter sent to SLA president Bimal Wijeyasinghe on April 11.

Senarath had been elected to the post at the SLA election held on March 12 at the Ministry of Sports auditorium, securing the highest number of 64 votes.

His resignation marks what is said to be one of the shortest tenures for a Secretary General in SLA history.

His resignation is expected to prompt internal discussions within Sri Lanka Athletics on the appointment of a replacement to the key administrative position.
