Air Force SC Plate champs

Air Force Sports Club secured a commanding 24 points (4 tries, 2 conversions) to 12 points (2 tries, 1 conversion) victory over Police Sports Club in the Plate final at the Air Force ground Ratmalana yesterday.

At the short breather Air Force led 7/5.

Air Force produced a clinical attacking display, crossing the line four times to underline their dominance. Their forwards’ play and physical edge ensured they controlled momentum from early in the contest.

Tries from Afasua Yaovasa, Shenal Uyangoda, Shamika Kaushan and Ishara Madushan powered the hosts to a convincing tally. Kaveesha Kaluarachchi added two conversions to extend the advantage. Kaluarachchi had a grand game both in defence as well as in attack.

Police responded with determination and managed two tries through Danushka Edirisuriya and skipper Shanaka Harischandra. Prince Chamara converted one, but they struggled to contain Air Force’s sustained pressure.

Though the first half was closely contested, in the second half the home team changed gear and played better running rugby to dominate and score three more tries where the Police could reply with only one try during the last minute.

The victory crowns Air Force as Plate champions, a fitting reward for their consistency and attacking intent.

Referee Craig Chan from Hong Kong did a good job.
