17th Fazza International Para Athletics Grand Prix 2026 Sri Lanka para-athletes shine with five medals

Sri Lanka’s para-athletes delivered an impressive performance at the Fazza International Para Athletics Grand Prix, securing a total of five medals (two gold and three silver) at the meet held in Dubai from February 6–13.

Nearly 200 leading international para-athletes competed at the prestigious event, with Sri Lanka represented by a compact team of three male athletes and one female athlete.

Paralympian Janani Dhananjana led the medal charge, winning two gold medals. She clocked 12.88 seconds to claim first place in the T46/47 women’s 100m final and leapt 5.25 metres to win gold in the T47 women’s long jump.

In the men’s events, Saman Subhasingha secured two silver medals, finishing second in the T47 400m with a time of 50.86 seconds and in the T47 100m with 11.29 seconds.

Adding to the tally, Budhika Heshan claimed silver in the T47 men’s long jump, recording a distance of 6.49 metres. He also placed seventh in the T47 100m final with a time of 11.93 seconds.

Sri Lanka’s overall haul of two gold and three silver medals marked a significant achievement for the nation in the international para-athletics arena, underlining the steady progress of its para-sports programme.
