Sri Lanka’s Navodya Sankalpa won the Bronze Medal in the Boys’ 400 metres hurdles on the final day of the Second Asian Youth Athletic Championship which concluded at the National Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Tuesday.
The schoolboy from Mahinda College clocked 53:86 seconds to finish behind the winner Halomoan Edwin Bisar (51.96 seconds) of Indonesia and Ting Hsuan Huang of China who returned a time of 52:49 seconds.
This was Sri Lanka’s second medal at the meet after Harsha Karunaratne won the Silver Medal in the Boys’ 800 metres event on Sunday (21).
Sri Lanka finished 17th in the overall medals tally with China taking the top spot with 16 Gold Medals.
Meanwhile, Santhush Weerasinghe had to be satisfied with the fourth place in the Boys’ 200 metres event with a personal best time of 21:92 seconds.
In addition, Ashmika Herath was not allowed to compete in the Girls’ 2,000 metres steeplechase event after having violated championship rules.
