Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) has appointed experienced New Zealand coach Peter Woods as the new Head Coach of the national sevens outfit for the upcoming Asian Sevens Series in Sri Lanka and China plus the much more important Asian Games in Japan later this year.
Woods is no stranger to Sri Lankan rugby, having previously served as the national sevens coach from 2016 to 2018. During that period, he guided Sri Lanka at several major international events, including the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games, helping the side gain valuable exposure against some of the world’s leading sevens nations.
A former New Zealand representative sevens player, Woods brings extensive experience both on and off the field. He has earned a strong reputation as a coach through his work with the Bay of Plenty Men’s Sevens programme in New Zealand, where he played a key role in developing emerging talent and enhancing the province’s sevens structure.
Sri Lanka Rugby is scheduled to officially sign the contract with Woods in Colombo on June 2.
